A 2-minute quiz
Do you speak violently?
(Most of us do, without knowing it.)
In Nonviolent Communication, “violent” doesn't necessarily mean yelling or cruelty. It means speaking in a way that implies the other person is bad, wrong, and/or responsible for your negative emotions. It includes but is not limited to: judgements, threats, exaggerations, guilt trips and blame. It can be overt or very subtle and at times hard to detect. This is the type of language that can easily put people on the defensive without ever raising one's voice.
In this test you'll see 12 statements from The Art of NVC board game. For each one, decide: is it violent (a condemning judgment) or nonviolent (an observable fact or true feeling)?
Every answer comes with a short explanation, so you'll leave knowing more than you came with.
